Coconut oil is consider one of the healthiest vegetable oils, which will be great in skin or hair care, but also in cooking. We all love products, which can be applied on skin, and at the same time we can eat a bit of too. But do we know anything more about types of coconut oils? We advise what should you be focused on.
We use it very willingly, because there is a lot said about properties of coconut oil – it has anti-fungus, antiviral and anti-bacterial properties; boosts metabolism of cells; makes skin elastic and nourishes it, providing rejuvenation and many more. Not many of us know that coconut oil is available on the market in two versions: refined and unrefined, which differ greatly.
What is the difference between refined and unrefined coconut oil?
The most visible difference is in the price of the coconut oil – refined oil is much cheaper. You should know that along with difference in price comes something more, i.e. different production process. Unrefined coconut oil is a natural fat from coconut palm. We can buy it fresh, but also after chemical treatment. It is subjected to the refining process, i.e. purifying of the vegetable residuals with use of solvents. Unfortunately, along with the impurities, in the refining process are splashed out valuable nourishing ingredients from coconut oil. The quality of refined coconut oil is its longer expiration date.
Which oil to choose – before or after refining?
Definitely better health and conditioning properties has cold pressed unrefined coconut oil. Although, it wasn’t purified, it has richer composition. Opinions on coconut oil unambiguously indicate that in a healthy diet recommended is intake of unrefined coconut oil. Unrefined version of this oil has – besides, richer composition and better qualities – pleasant texture and delicate scent of coconut (that is what refined oil doesn’t have). Unrefined coconut oil resembles thick butter in white colour. In the room temperature is solid, but it melts at contact with skin. It makes it better to apply and there is no fear of trickling or messing the packaging with spilling oil.
For body okay, for hair way over-hyped!
For me it didn’t work on hair . I quite it \
Coconut oil has cool properties so if you do not like it, then use it in the oil mix perhaps? With argan and jojoba?
My favorite oil!
I’ll never be convinced about this smell! Though I know it has pretty cool properties, particularly on skin.
I heard it is pretty good, but I do not like the texture. I prefer it in the kitchen 🙂
I just love this fragrance and regret that it stays so short on hair.
I use it on hair few times a month and I see improvement only the smell starts to irritate me a bit
I buy refined, cause I don’t like the coconut fragrance. It is great to moisturize hair and skin.
If you want to use it, then only unrefined, everyone knows it!
There is no point in use of refined oil because it is devoid of all the good ingredients. Maybe it moisturizes, but there is nothing beneficial for skin or hair.
I apply it on hair and body , love the scent.
Me too, but I definitely way more prefer coconut oil as a body balm than for hair
Indeed, smell great, but hair is then so heavy.
I use it on face and my acne decreased
Probably the most universal oil of all
